When it comes to their love of play, this breed never really outgrow the puppy stage. They are superb with children — the more active, the better. But they have a gentle nature that prevents playtime from ever getting rough. They are also eager to work: Give them a job and they’ll be brilliant workers.
Miniature American Shepherds have excellent guarding instincts and a strong sense of loyalty to their families. They will let you know if anything suspicious happens around the house, but are much quieter than other guardian dogs.

When we talk about the temperament of this wonderful dog breed, we just find out that it’s extremely easygoing and friendly. The toy Australian shepherd extremely active, just like it’s ancestor shepherds. Another interesting thing about them is, that they are extremely awesome family dogs and enjoys to play around with active children. They need daily interaction and exercise to keep from becoming bored.
The gene for the beautiful merle colouration also carries a blind/deaf factor. This can only be just expressed in Merle/Merle crosses. Most of the American Miniature Australian Shepherds are heterozygous merles and these merles are not at risk of any special health problems due to their colouration. We only breed merles with tri-color males or solids. We make sure that our puppies are checked for hearing as well as looking for any hip or eye problems.
This energetic and extremely active dog needs a plenty of vigorous exercises to stay in shape, or better yet, for some serious work to do. Having children playing with these great dogs helps with their energy levels. Having a fenced area or taking the on long walks are always a great ideas.
These beautiful dogs can have nice curly hairs but it’s not too long that you will have a need to cut them. The don’t need a lot of grooming or products. They just need to combed once a week, it will be more than enough for them. The Australian Shepherd breed sheds its hair twice a year so they are pretty standard as compared to other dog breeds. It's fair to say that you should not worry about the grooming of this dog, They just don’t need it that much.
This breed is extremely intelligent and are often used as agility dogs, as well as other types of sports. They are very trainable and excited to please with new tricks and obedience. They love attention and being involved with family events. They alert to new sounds or activities, but aren't as loud as other guardian dogs. They make a perfect family dog!
